Some athletes go off to
play a professional sport and
after retirement never make it
back home, but that’s not the
case for David W. Carter
graduate, Gregory Lamonte’
Hill.
The former star running
back knows that there have
been reports that up to 80 percent
of professional athletes
are “wifeless, broke and can’t
get a job” 18 months after
they retire.
But that’s not the case for
this happily
married former
member
of the Kansas
City Chiefs,
St. Louis
Rams, and
Detroit
Lions.
He’s back
home and about to open a
business that many mothers
might say is coming right on
time, for Mother’s Day.
Child N’ Play is as much
for the ‘supermoms’ and
housewives as it is for children
ages six weeks to 12 years,
says Mr. Hill, about his drop-in
hourly childcare center.
When you get Mr. Hill talking about Child N’
Play,there’s no mistaking the
excitement in his voice. He loves
children and says he’s looking
forward to being at the center
every day, not only taking care
of the children, but also serving
as a role model.
“Being around children gives
me the same happiness as
playing football and scoring a
touchdown for the St. Louis
Rams,” said the father of two.
“It will be a comfort to you
knowing that your child is in a
safe, loving and secure environment
with First Aid and CPR
trained workers, including me!”
A motivational speaker and
ESPN contributor, Mr. Hill says he
likes being around children, seeing
them “going from doing nothing
to doing something well.”
Growing up without a father
figure, Mr. Hill said he got the
idea for Child N’ Play when he
was playing in St. Louis and
child care was provided for the
players’ children. He noticed
that not only were his children
playing and having fun, they
were watching what “daddy was
doing” on the screen.
Providing a safe environment
with several activities, as well as
programs, he said would benefit
the children while giving parents
much needed relief.
“Just think about when
you’ve had an emergency to
come up, a client has come into
town, or you want to get your
hair and nails done, Child N’
Play takes the stress out of the
situation because you can just
drop your children off,” he said.
Admittedly the child care
industry is dominated by women
and professional athletes are definitely
not entering into the
arena, but Mr. Hill is undaunted
as he ventures forward with his
concept of which he says,
“outside of Child N’ Play, you’d
have to go to a heavenly theme
park to find this much kid fun in
one place.”
In addition to child care
services, Child N’ Play provides
separate infant and toddler areas,
an indoor playground, movie
theater, video game area, arts &
crafts, birthday party room,
homework helpers and storytelling.
You can even take Child N’
Play on the road by utilizing
their Event Child Care Services.
And if that’s not enough,
while children are having fun,
the facility offers meeting spaces
for parents.
Located at 5645 Colleyville
Blvd in Colleyville, Child N’
Play is even open on Sundays.
Child N’ Play’s grand
opening will be on Friday, May
11 at 10 a.m. with the ribbon
cutting ceremony at 4p.m
