Gift-buying is not always easy.
It definitely should not be done because you feel
obligated to do so. And you definitely should not
have to go into debt to "show your love" for someone.
Hopefully this list of some of my favorite items for
2006 will help you to make some wise choices for Christmas,
Kwanzaa, Birthdays or happy to be alive days. You
can also go and visit a person, write a letter or
send a card. Now if you are looking for value for
your money, I am going to tell you about some of my
choices and you can go out or online and purchase
them, or you can tune in to
KKDA-AM on Sunday morning at 8:00 for
a chance to win one of these fabulous items.

When I met Paul and Donna Gant at a wedding,
they were talking about their candles which
were actually the wedding favors. They were
boasting about how great their candles are and
the wonderful scents that are created by their
company, ScentSational candles by Paul. I said,
"sure, sure." But guess what, they were correct.
The candles are wonderful and long-lasting,
and most of all, reasonably price and in cute
packaging. They have various scents, like Orange
Spice, Peach Delight, Holiday Cheer, Clean Cotton
and my favorite, Creamy Vanilla. To order your
candles, call 972-296-4590 and Paul or Donna
will be happy to fill your order. Some lucky
caller is going to receive a gift pack of candles
from ScentSational Candles by Paul, featuring
several of the most popular scents.

Black Images Book Bazaar
is closing. Talk about a sad day in America-one
of the premier book stores in the country is
closing, a few months shy of its 30th anniversary.
There are so many memories I have of Black Images,
Emma Rodgers and Ashira Tosihwe. And while Black
Images is closing it will still have a place
in our hearts and minds. I can recall meeting
so many wonderful people there and making numerous
purchases. I remember December 31st when I stopped
into the store on my way home from work at KKDA.
As I was driving, I was thinking about what
a rough year I had and how I was so ready for
it to end and the next one to begin. From the
moment I walked through the door, I felt better.
The warmth and love flowing from Emma and Ashira
was enough to let me know that "this too shall
pass." In commemoration of Black Images almost
30 years of service, you can stop by 230 Wynnewood
Village (Dec. 20 is No Book Left Behind Day)
or call in for the Black Images Book Basket,
featuring some dynamic authors.

Tamarra Billings has a story
to tell. In 2003, she experienced some major
milestones in her life: she celebrated her 30th
birthday, received her MBA (finally, after attending
at night while maintaining a full-time corporate
job) and found out she was pregnant with "my
1st child (after a long time of trying to conceive)."
In a recent interview, she said she did not
want to return to the stress of the corporate
world. Her goal for opening La Bella Belly Maternity
Boutique was to provide a single location for
the mother-to-be to obtain quality apparel and
indulge in massage therapy treatments as conveniently
as possible. She says that "Ultimately, my hope
with the arrival of La Bella Belly is that every
woman realizes that her pregnant belly is truly
BEAUTIFUL." You can also get massages, whether
you are pregnant or not. And some of the clothing,
well, you don't have to be pregnant to look
good. Located in the Village on the Green, at
5301 Alpha Road, Suite 16, the lavish boutique
and spa also features a licensed therapist.
The website is www.labellabellymaternity.com
Use the La Bella Belly Maternity Boutique gift
certificate to take advantage of the clothing
line, maternity apparel, nursing necessities,
pre and post natal items and even CDs.

My good friend Dick Gregory is always encouraging
people to drink water. When you consider how
much of the earth is made up of water, you have
to ask yourself "why does it cost?" Well if
you have to pay for it, why not get it from
someone who looks like you and gives back to
the community. I'm talking about Everlasting
Spring Water, and owner/CEO Larry Johnson. You
know him from growing up right in South Dallas
and going on to become an NBA legend. I know
him as one good brother who deserves our support.
Everlasting is committed to quality and making
a difference. You can have the Hot and Cold
or Room Temperature and Cold Full-size Dispensers
in your office or home. Or you can order the
convention bottles in either12 ounce, 16.9 ounce,
1 liter or 1 gallon. Need cups for your dispenser,
they have them too. Try it for yourself, call
214-630-8900, log on to www.everlastingspring.com
or tune in.

I just love good music. When you listen to the
songstress Teena Marie's latest CD, Sapphire,
I guarantee that you will love it. It features
a tribute to Rick James, to Katrina, and to
romance. She talks about everything from "Gangsta
Love" to God creating someone for you to love.
Have you ever felt that way about someone before?
Lady T will bring back memories for you. Check
out her CD. Don't wait to hear it on the radio.
(see review on page 25). Also, in this CD pack,
I have Miles Jayes' Humanity CD. Talk about
a crooner. Mr. Jaye, who like his namesake the
legendary trumpeter Miles Davis, is one of music's
most gifted, distinctive and dynamic artists.
HUMANITY, his 7th album and 4th on his independently
owned record label, Black Tree Records, features
such tunes as "Forget About the Other night,"
"Love Affair," and "I Cry For You." Miles Jaye
was discovered by R&B singing sensation, Teddy
Pendergrass and in 1988 produced the certified
gold CD JOY for his mentor. He was also the
lead singing "Cop" for the world-renowned disco
group the Village People. You can order their
CDs at www.teenamarie.com
or www.milesjaye.com,
or this beautiful CD pack can also be yours

Every time I go to NorthPark
Mall, I try to stop in LUSH Fresh Handmade Products,
even if just to get a whiff of the wonderful
fragrances. The Lush creative team began working
together in the late 1970s and over the years,
the products have developed into a very popular
line. With almost 400 shops worldwide, it's
no wonder it is a favorite among folks like
me. Everything from soaps, fragrances, hair
care products, massage bars and more. When you
walk into Lush, it's like walking into a delicatessen
for your skin and body. Buy only what you need
or can afford. Let me tell you, I dropped one
of those "Big Blue" balls that has seaweed to
soften your skin and so much more, into a tub
of warm water and for the next hour, the feelings
I had were unimaginable. There are also sprays
and soaps and other good smelling stuff that
will make you feel good about yourself. You
can stop by LUSH at NorthPark Mall or you can
order on line at www.Lush.com.
You might even want the LUSH basket I have waiting
for you!

You know him from back in the day-Al Green.
In an interview with Mr. Green, he talked about
his love of music and God. You may have seen
him at the Tom Joyner Sky Show. It was in the
early 1970s that Mr. Green carved his place
in music history with a run of celebrated hits
that made him not just an R&B star but a pop
icon. Since 1976, however, Green has concentrated
on gospel music (recording numerous albums,
but only two pop offerings), and since 1979
has led his Baptist congregation, the Full Gospel
Tabernacle, in Memphis, Tenn. For Everything's
OK, Green embraces both worlds by releasing
a "secular" album under the name the Reverend
Al Green-a symbolic gesture, perhaps, but a
significant one nonetheless. He said, "The music
is the message, the message is the music. So
that's my little ministry that the Big Man upstairs
gave to me-a little ministry called love and
happiness." Whatever he is singing, the music
is still good and some lucky person will see
that when they see him in concert at Nokia on
December 27 with Ms. Etta James.

The phrase, Don't Believe the Hype is very important to me, just as Public Enemy, Dick Gregory, Malik Farrakhan and all the celebrities and volunteers who help make the bowl-a-thon a success every year. Sponsors, including American Airlines, Coca Cola, Nielsen Media, Clear Channel Outdoor, Sweet Georgia Brown, Kroger Foods, Pro-Line Corporation, Evans Engraving, The Dallas Weekly, Cut Rate Pharmacy, Children's Medical Center, AT&T, McDonald's, The Dallas Mavericks, NtheKnow.com, KKDA/K104/KRNB, and my friends in the Black Press have helped us to provide support to numerous organizations and programs. Someone is going to get a DBTH pack, which will include sitting in on Reporters Roundtable with me and a team of 6 for the 2007 Bowl-a-thon.
